We North Americans tend to move around a lot, so I suspect our answers will differ from those provided by people from other continents.

Anyway, I'll start. I am currently 2345 miles / 3919 km from where I was born (straight-line distance).
I'm very close to you (in terms of distance from where I was born, not proximity)! Or rather was until 3 months ago. I was born in Singapore, came to Perth, Western Australia, which is about 3,900 km (as measured on google earth). I'm now in Melbourne which is probably something like 7,000 km away.
Currently: ~1,275 miles/2,295 km for about nine years now.
In the past:
~3,000 miles/4,800 km for about two years;
~4,000 miles/8,640 km for about seven years;
~5,000 miles/9,000 km for about four years.
And various distances in between over the years, taking the circuitous route, kind of like jtur88.
