I haven't visited enough homes in other countries to know if it's common there, so I'm wondering if this mostly an Australian thing? I think it makes sense, I mean what if you wanna use the dunny while someone's in a shower? Of course most houses have at least 2 toilets. Maybe it originates from us having a lot of outdoor outhouses, the old 'thunder boxes' that you can still find in a lot of older homes here.

I don't know, but I can see the sense in a separate room for just a commode. Makes sense on a lot of levels. And, if you did the plumbing sensibly, you could actually create TWO or THREE commode-only rooms in a cluster or back to back grouping. I wouldn't want one room with multiple commodes in it.... too weird.

Why would anyone have a room with multiple commodes in it?

I've seen a house plan with dual "his and her" commodes with a giant size shower between
with 2 shower doors The Riviera model by Sandbury Homes.

I've owned 6 houses, 4 of 6 with the toilet separate from the rest of the bathroom,
very "open concept" with no main bathroom door, just a big wide opening,
it's the in thing in newer homes in my area only the toilet room having a door.

Not sure if its common here but I've often seen in houses they have them separate but most apartments I've seen have had the toilet in the bathroom (except for my last apartment)

I've seen a room with two toilets next to each other. It was an outhouse really (was my mum's old primary school actually but turned into a summer home), guess it was so you had company when you went to the loo...
