Interesting, one tree that does thrive here are Jacarandas, I believe they come from South America originally.

Brisbane has several streets that look like this right now.

I think what he meant is that some countries are symbolically associated with some trees ( as some countries are symbolically associated with some animals for example.)

They've definitely left Japan out ( and sakura) in this case though)))))

yes, I mentioned it Most people know it as Cherry Blossom, Sakura (桜本) is the Japanese name, obviously

I'm not sure if NZ is associated with a tree. Pinus radiata perhaps? ( a joke for kiwis)

Probably the stunning Silver Fern - a tree fern, or the noble Kauri.... or even the plucky Manuka.
