What languages do you feel sound at their best when sung? Some languages may sound nice to you whether spoken or sung, but spefically which do you think are at their best in song? Feel free to mention those that sound less sppealing when sung as well

I personally feel that Swedish is an incredibly beautiful language when sung. My bias would also say Italian and vocals in music go hand in hand.

Spanish loses some of its intrigue for me when sung unless it is in a carribbean Spanish accent

French sounds great in slow and somber ballads but often becomes annoying in Pop

German is relatively unappealing to me when spoken but surprisingly cool sounding when sung in most genres of music

I could go on...but your thoughts??

Lingala, the language if Kinshasa, sounds beautiful in Congolese music (where it is often code-switched with French). This would be more or less applicable to all African languages, also including Miriam Makeba's Xhosa. Polynesian languages of the south Pacific, too, including Hawaiian.

For European languages, maybe Greek sounds the best.

Just the opposite, spoken Brazilian Portuguese has a musical quality to it that is lost when it is put to music, and just becomes ugly in song..

Pepe Kalle, singing in Lingala:

I find Russian and Chinese to be really beautiful when sung, but somewhat annoying when spoken normally.

Spanish sounds romantic both spoken and sung.

French and Italian sound good too

This is my favourite French song " La Festin " soundtrack of Ratatouille

Japanese sounds beautiful in song and regular speech. Mandarin and Cantonese sound good in song as well, not so much when spoken (I think Cantonese sounds better than Mandarin, though). I haven't heard enough Korean songs besides Psy to make a judgement on Korean, but their language sounds nice, too (I used to go to Korean church services)

Italian sounds awesome in classical music (opera) and also ballads, but not so great to my ear in faster pop songs.

One of my favourite songs is 'Du Måste Finnas', from the swedish musical 'Kristina från Duvemåla', sung by Helen Sjöholm. I found the language amazing when I heard this song for the first time.

I like the sound of Romance languages in song, particularly Spanish and Portuguese.
