I didn't want to post this in the travel forum because it's too American-orientated and I figured this would give a more international perspective.

I know each region has unique things that make it unique - not just the beach itself but other attractions, but for a a holiday of PREDOMINANTLY lazing around on the beach, a bit of leisurely watersports maybe, and a bit of light culture on the side (not forgetting food), which region tends to appeal to your sensibilities the most, if you had to choose?

For me the Mediterranean interests me more overall for the region, but if a beach holiday I think I'd prefer somewhere tropical because of the opportunity for snorkelling/diving in coral reefs. It'd be out of Australia and SEA. The former is more pristine, but the latter has the best food, and cheaper accommodation.etc.

Wish I could edit the poll and include 'rest of Europe including the Atlantic', and 'rest of N.America including Hawaii'...

My favourite ones between the ones I know are Caribbean and Mediterranean but I voted Mediterranean because for me it is easier to get there, water is a bit warmer in summer (yes it is!!) but it is more crowded by tourist

No such region exists, as beach holidays become extremely boring after a day or two.

It depends on the area, it is not the same having ONLY beach than having beach + culture for example.

I wouldn't fly to Punta Cana only to lie down on the beach, but if we choose a Mediterranean city or even Riviera Maya with beach + cities + culture + gastronomy... it's different

Yes, sure. Hitting the beach can be a small part of the holiday, but if I'm abroad, I want to get around, see places and experience something. I think spending a week only on a beach doing nothing is a waste of time.

How about if you're lazy, navigating through an airport and the ride from the airport to the hotel is already too much for me

I can't think of just one as it all depends on what you would call a beach vacation/holiday. Here are my picks based on what I've seen and the places I've been and are in no order whatsoever.

Chilling on a beach while drinking a rum drink and planning to hit the clubs at night I'd have to say Cabo San Lucas and Playa Del Carmin/Puerto Aventuras in Mexico.

Just relaxing without a care in the world, perhaps a little snorkeling as well, I'd pick the Bahamas and assorted islands in the Caribbean.

Taking the whole family to escape the cold and hit the beaches but like the opportunity to do other things you may be familiar with if you or the kids get bored. Florida has it covered.

If your into fishing and like the looks/feel of an endless dune lined beach then I'd have to throw in anywhere along North Carolina's outer banks.

Agreed. I don't understand this passion of most people to beach holidays.
