I'm not defending America, I'm defending Europe. At least most Europeans know that Mississippi is in America. How many Americans know in which countries Sinaloa or Dagestan are?
ive never heard of either of those places and don't know where they are
imo, it shows a lack of understanding about the world outside your country. This is prevalent when your hear people use "Arab" and "Muslim" interchangeably. Or when people hear "Eastern Europe" and automatically think of Poland or Russia.
If you ask me, I think it makes Europeans look just as stupid to really believe Americans do not know anything about other countries. The ones who come on here and act like that are just as closed minded as any American they belittle.
Well, considering they vote for the government of the country owning the most powerful armed forces in the world that's a little bit worrying.
Then, why do Americans don't understand why they are the target of many criticisms?
Imagine it like this: France becomes the next world superpower. The US drops down to 9th or 10th or something. Enough time passes that nobody is really sore about that anymore, its just the usual situation now.
Every day, as Americans watch their international news, most of it is about the French. It's French this and French that. All the movies, are French. The popular food, is French. And so on.
What will do you think will happen to the amount of baguette jokes made on a given day in the US?
Do you understand? You are a big target.
Then, don't think that people outside wake up in the morning whining about American (supposed) ignorance in history or geography, we don't care like most people in US.
It's just a discussion on the Internet.
This is a republic in which the citizens have a voice in what the US government does. I would say that since the US is fighting some folk and not others, the citizens ought to care about who they're fighting and who they're not fighting.
It really doesn't matter what people in other countries know. It matters that Americans know what America is doing, where America is doing it, and who America is doing it to.
Your second link was not proving your point, but actually working against it. Nice job.
Except that it does. If you bothered to read the article, it said that Americans are worse in general at placing countries on a map, and it offers several theories as to why that may be
ive never heard of either of those places and don't know where they are
I doubt many people anywhere do.
