This might be of interest https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colo..._of_Antarctica
If a colony ever develops, it would be on King George Island https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/King...etland_Islands)

Here are some of the bases on the island with their climate states.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Base..._Frei_Montalva
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bellingshausen_Station
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coma...Antarctic_Base

I do think we should try to build a small colony in Antarctica as well as one under the ocean, before we ever attempt to colonize the moon, or Mars.

Also plants do grow in Antarctica
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deschampsia_antarctica
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colobanthus_quitensis

And there are many more that have been accidentally introduced that are becoming invasive
Alien Species Invading Antarctica via Tourists, Scientists

But Antarctica will never be colonized as long as these treaties are in place
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antarctic_Treaty_System

This is perhaps the closest we will ever get to colonizing the Antarctica

there are 200 000 candidates for colonizing the Planet Mars but no one wants to go to Antarctica, although the climate on Mars is far far worse (there is not even an atmosphere in fact) and it's mightyn difficult to get there. This proves if needed that humanity is screwed.

Default Isn't it obvious why?

It has much less exposed land than those other places and it's isolated for traveling because it creates its own climate. You can get literally stuck there for months.

Nature needs a reprieve from people constantly ovecrowding it, anyhow. Too bad it takes such an extreme environment to stop "human progress."

Antarctica would be a great place to prepare for future space colonization missions. At the very least, it can act as a staging ground for Mars and the Moon.
