In most countries it's going to be soccer. Esp. most of Europe and certainly South America.

In America I'm sure it's baseball or football followed closely by basketball. Soccer is often ridiculed here, but it's great for kids.

I read that the most popular sport in Iceland is handball!! Could it be true?

I think it's divided pretty evenly between alpine skiing, ski jumping and football here.

The most popular sportsmen seem to be Marcel Hirscher and David Alaba at the moment.

Certain sports are popular in different ways. Boxing is popular but is on TV relatively rarely. And yet practically everybody knows who Ali or Tyson are.

In America, isn't soccer more popular with kids than other sports? I think it's because it's not really injury-prone like football and baseball is too slow for most people.

Golf somehow boomed in South Korea and baseball boomed in Japan. Not sure why.

It's possible that hockey rules in Canada.

Sometimes glamour is involved. Do most men watch Serena Williams just to see if she wins or not?

You forgot golf. Golf might be higher than soccer in America. Also tennis is pretty big.

Race car driving is the subject of many jokes about poorer peoples.

It's hard to measure these things because, for example, the Superbowl is one game but the World Series is 4-7.
