There is currently a bill in congress that aims to remove the US from the UN and ask them to move the headquarters out of the US. If this bill were to pass, there would be two years after its signing to make this happen.

Where do you all think the new UN headquarters should be if it left New York?

It would just be amalgamated and absorbed in to the UN Offices in Geneva (The Palace of Nations), the large UN Offices in Vienna, the UN Offices in Nairobi in Kenya and the International Courts at the Hague in the Netherlands. There are enough offices already and Switzerland being neutral would be the obvious location especially with it's history in relation to the Geneva Convention , and most of the facilities are already in place at The Palace of the Nations which was the Fomer Headquarters of The League of Nations (forerunner to the UN).

Ron Paul was always introducing such bills, but they have never managed to inspire much in the way of political support, so I can't realistically see the UN HQ in NYC closing just yet.

If it happened, I could see our governments trying again to lobby to UN to move to Montreal. Three levels of government tried in 2007, and we still have a great site ready to go:

Will the UN move to Montreal - and how will it affect the waterfront? - Spacing Montreal

Montreal is already home to a UN agency (aviation), uses the official UN languages of English and French, would be physically convenient for moving things out of New York, and a location on the border would likely be a strategic move with a hope of the US rejoining when a new administration gets in.

It's not going to happen, but they'd be welcome in Vienna. Just like the European Banking Authority. The more international organisations the better.

Yes, it will happen.

That's fine, let the US keep pouring billions of dollars to Israel and they can keep Israel as their 'friend.'

And the UN will continue on their mission to destroy Israel while they ignore human rights violations of the ugliest kind elsewhere. The primary composition of the UN are God awful hypocrites. Get the UN out of the US and get the US out of the UN. It's an organization of anti-Semitic criminals. Build a settlement, get a sanction. Rape women, throw gays off buildings, invade your neighboring country, burn your people with chlorine, eviscerate pregnant women and get ignored.

Yes. It used to be considered prestigious to have a UN agency located in one's country. Oh well. I wonder if Canada would be interested.

Majority of US elected officials may not want UN headquarters here but most people in NYC support the UN and like the economic boost it adds. If UN did leave probably hundreds of working class people would loose jobs related to it, which goes against the 'more jobs at home' mantra.
