How is astrology noticed and observed in your country and region of the world you live in? Are the majority of people aware of some form of astrology over there?

A basic summary and explanation of Astrology:

“Astrology consists of several systems of divination based on the premise that there is a relationship between astronomical phenomena and events in the human world. Many cultures have attached importance to astronomical events, and the Indians, Chinese, and Mayans developed elaborate systems for predicting terrestrial events from celestial observations. In the West, astrology most often consists of a system of horoscopes that claim to explain aspects of a person's personality and predict future events in their life based on the positions of the sun, moon, and other planetary objects at the time, month, day, year of their birth.”

There is connections to some forms of religion, spirituality, and ancient historic relevance in astrology.

I prefer to focus on “Western” version of Astrology, including 12 signs of Capricorn, Aquarius, Pisces, Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, and a comprehensive astrological chart including much more information such as life evaluation, individual personality, and most favorable places to travel and live in.

Horoscope and Astrology - Homepage - Astrodienstastrodienst, Cafe Astrology: Astrology Signs, Horoscopes, Love, are accurate websites about astrological observations. ASTROLABE: #1 Free Astrology Birth Chart Online: Astrolabe's Free Astro Chart, Horoscope Data Input Page is another place for anyone to get an Astrological chart. Horoscope and Astrology - Homepage - Astrodienst includes this information in up to 10 to 20 world languages.

Even if they "pooh-pooh" it, most westerners seem to at least know their (Sun)"sign", with probably a lot more than will care to admit, occasionally reading their "horoscope" in the paper. Otherwise few seem to really know much about it.

BTW, though hard to gauge, perhaps because they're wary of it affecting their reputation, there's some evidence that a surprising number of famous and wealthy folks use professional astrologers for guidance in everything from their careers, to politics, to investing. Ronald Reagan and his wife Nancy are obviously the best known, who consulted with astrologer Joan Quigley, going back to their days in Hollywood. And when interviewed about it, Donald Reagan – Formerly Ronald Reagan’s Chief of Staff said: "It’s common knowledge that a large percentage of Wall Street brokers use astrology."

JP Morgan – the First Billionaire said : "Millionaires don’t use astrology, billionaires do."

Albert Einstein: "Astrology is a science in itself and contains an illuminating body of knowledge. It taught me many things and I am greatly indebted to it."

Sir Isaac Newton (in defense of astrology, to sceptic Edmund Halley): "I have studied the matter. Your sir, have not."

I think astrology is a bunch of baloney. I got a reading done for my birthday last year a present from my partner's sister.... I don't know what to make of it, but I don't care about that stuff. Apparently astrology readings are super expensive.
I know there is more to astrology than Sun sign, there is the Moon and rising etcera...! I know several people that take it seriously but I think its not a science and silly.

It always cracks me up that the folks who most rag on Astrology, seem to be the very ones who know the least about it!

Yet they'll always claim to care about "science"…. which by definition is "the systematic study of the structure and behavior of the physical and natural world through observation and experiment"! Which BTW, they obviously haven't a clue about, so methinks they kinda 'protest too much'.

Robert Heinlein: "A touchstone to determine the actual worth of an ‘intellectual’, is to find out how he feels about astrology."

As a Libra, I believe it's bad luck to be superstitious.

Would that be the same Robert Heinlein who had a character refer to astrology as "glorified nonsense" in one of his novels?

Anyway, my problem with astrology is like my problem with religion: how can you know which version is the "right" one?

^ ^ Good point, though the actual context of Heinlein's quote is often disputed (and funny how the 'deniers' will choose the sci-fi author, but ignore the actual scientists who do support astrology).

BTW, aside from the fact that most religion is based on 'dogma' and 'faith', while Astrology is actually a codified 'system' (regardless whether one believes in it or not), doesn't most genuine knowledge come from learning… free of a bunch of 'assumptions'… followed by basic "empiricism", aka, personally observing what, how (and if) things work that way? And the two main astrology traditions, the Indian Vedic and the Western system, both "work", depending on the type of "information" one is seeking.

Though the astrology 'deniers' usually just dismiss it out of hand, without a clue what it is they're actually criticizing (let alone so, um, 'passionately')!

There' the horoscope in newspapers, magazines.etc, and those crappy psychic shows on TV, but I don't think most people take it seriously. It's fun to talk about it, though. I think I match up really well with my star sign - Aquarius - but it's probably most coincidence. I do think, however, there might be some truth to the idea that the time of year you're born affects your personality. How exactly I don't know.

Well, science is based on rigorous testing of repeatable, verifiable, quantifiable empirical phenomena. And unlike faith (or pseudoscience), real science isn't afraid of getting it wrong. In fact, repeatedly getting it wrong until you figure out how to get it right is the hallmark of science.

As far as I'm concerned, astrology is a low- or no-cost substitute for therapy. If it makes people feel better, great! But it doesn't represent some sort of immutable truth of the universe, because if it did, you'd have to be prepared to explain -- using rigorous scientific methodology -- to 1.5 billion Chinese why their astrological system is wrong and yours is the only correct one.

I wonder if it's different in the Southern Hemisphere.

Or if everything changed once Pluto stopped being a planet.

Or if it would change again in a few hundred thousand years when the Earth's axis has precessed enough so that the constellations are all in different places in the sky.
