It seems to me that going to the beach, for activities like bathing/swimming on the sea, surfing, or just sunbathing on the sand, is more popular in some places than in others.
I believe it's popular in most of Europe, in most of the Americas (North, Central and South) and in Oceania.
But how popular is it in each continent?
Are there coastal nations where only the fishermen are interested in beaches, and the general population doesn't care about it?

Your question is not clear. You are asking on one hand about continents, then you you change it to nations. Which is it??
It's funny - Brighton Beach (the one pictured) is pretty bad - just a bunch of stones and rocks and no sand whatsoever. I don't see the appeal.
