OK, so tonight are the Grammy awards. Just wondering if stuff like this, and the Oscars, and other stuff from the US (also reality shows, etc.?) are treated in your country. Are the covered as if they were actually happening in your country, are they mentioned in passing as a curiosity, or are they largely ignored?

Grammies, Emmies and especially Oscars are, but it seems mostly people who are into the whole celebrity culture follow it that much. The others only really late at night or on cable, most people dont really care about them.

Ah yes, the time difference is very important and cools the enthusiasm. So I gather it's not something that a major network would tape and then broadcast in prime time on the following day?

True, I guess knowing the winner beforehand kind of takes some of the suspense away...

OK. I am asking because these days I am having to keep an eye on media across Canada for work and I noticed how most of the Canadian news media (in English) were giving the Grammys near-saturation coverage over the weekend and also this morning. It was the lead item on the majority of newscasts (not just the Entertainment segments) and on this morning's wakeup news programs it was all about last night's Grammys, the winners, the dresses, etc.

In the French-language media in Canada the Grammys get mentions in the Entertainment news segments, but they aren't as big as the Oscars. But the Oscars don't get saturation coverage in Quebec either, although the last three years Quebec has had a film as a finalist in the best foreign film category, so this in particular heightened interest substantially.

And the Emmys aren't really on the radar in French Canada.

I've never watched them, so I really have no idea what channel they appear on. I've definitely never seen them on the main channels.

I think the Grammy awards will be on music channels such as MTV Europe (satellite/cable) and 4 Music (freeview).

Then again it's usually early in the morning in Europe when US award ceremonies take place, so we generally just see who won what in the next days news.

Most of the bigger shows are shown on Star (the canadian channel) in Sweden.
