Australia's pornography laws are downright barbaric. Talk about nanny state censorship! And no gay marriage definitely sends it to be the back of the pack for me.

What about Australia pornographic laws? Anyone can download any pornographic content in Australia, but like the USA, you be arrested if you are caught with child porn.

Anyway there is no Australian state that is less liberal than certain states such as Mississippi, Alabama and Louisiana.

About gay marriage, Germany has not legalised gay marriage either. Even Thailand has not legalised gay marriage, yet it has the highest number of transgender people in the world. Just because a country does not legalise gay marriage does not mean it is not liberal. Also there were massive anti gay marriage protests in France, and these protests even rival the anti gay marriage protests in the USA despite gay marriage being legal in France.

No idea what you are referring to, in regards to pornography laws.

As to ending marriage discrimination - most Australians are in favour of this. We have some politicians, who are dragging their feet and making this process much harder than it is required. I could go into detail, but it is not the Australian people who are against this.

For Australia and equal marriage, I believe it's a case of the government not reflecting the will of the people. Governments don't always represent the majority. We had ten years of than in Canada.

These days its more like both sides of government not agreeing on how to pass legislation they both support. Its totally ridiculous.

I am Australian and there could be a plebiscite on same sex marriage next year. If it happens I will vote no, as I do not support gay marriages. Yet if government here in Australia vote in same sex marriage instead of plebiscite, then even even though many people here would oppose it, as it has happened in Canada when it became legalised (I know most people in Canada and Australia support gay marriage btw)

Anyway in regards to politics ,the politician Pauline Hanson (Australia's version of Donald Trump) was right that political correctness is destroying a nation. I don't always agree what she has to say but she has every right to say what she already said as an elected member in Government, just like the Green Party

Uuh? Sorta like the ER's that are forced to provide life sustaining treatment regardless of ability of patient to pay? Would that constitute totalitarianism also?

You did notice the word emergency was used, did you not?

I believe Trudeau the elder said it best by repeating a quote by the Globe and Mail's Martin O'Malley: "There's no place for the state in the bedroom's of the nation".

A great pity more nations weren't believers of this axiom.

You've missed my point. Most would consider "Liberalism" to be characterized by limitations on governments' ability to intervene in the economic, social or moral affairs of individuals.

Another poll on the news yesterday done by the UNI of Melbourne showed majority support for gay marriage in all but 1 of Australia's 150 federal electorates.
