If you were forced to renounce your citizenship (for whatever reason, don't ask) and had to choose citizenship in another country, which would you pick ?
State your citizenship, the other citizenship you would pick, and why.
My current citizenship is UK, i would pick Monegasque.
why ? .. 1) no income tax 2) Mediterranean weather 3) you can travel around, and live, anywhere in the EU 4) its situated right in the heart of Western Europe 5) it is protected by the French military 6) It has one of the lowest crime rates in the world 7) Monte-Carlo Grand Prix would be right on your door step
German, French, Swedish or Dutch. I can't decide. I usually lean towards Germanic countries, but I really do love France - such a beautiful country with beautiful cities, towns, villages and a decent variety of landscapes and climates for such a small country (in relative terms).
Most likely either Australia, or Sweden or Norway.
All have close relations with the US which would make it easy for me to travel back when I wanted or needed to see family and friends.
Australia would make it easier for me to travel to and work or go to school in other Commonwealth countries, has a good economy, is similar enough to American culture that I'd feel less homesick overall, and I've gotten along well with nearly all the Australians I've ever met.
Sweden or Norway would give me perks for being an EU citizen and being able to travel and work anywhere within the EU. I'm ethnically Swedish and grew up with a heavy dosage of Scandanavian culture, plus I'm in contact with family there and also have some friends in both countries.
All choices offer more worker protections than the US does, and better benefits in general; there are certainly pluses. There are also countries all around the world that it's easier to get a work or study visa if you're from the EU or Commonwealth than the US (whether or not I'm interested in going to these countries for those purposes is another matter, of course). So, there are certainly pluses.
All this said, here in China, things work out better for me being a US passport holder: the US and China have a better visa agreement, so I get my visa in 1 year intervals versus 3 to 6 for China or the EU.
Odds are, I'd go to the States though. It's the most similar, easy access back to Canada for visits, great weather and landscape, and I like to shoot stuff. (not animals......stuff. lol)
Runner up would be Australia for the weather and the people and landscape.
The UK would be for the history, and the people, and landscape.
I don't know what the job situation is like in those two though.

Norway would give me perks for being an EU citizen
EFTA citizen to be precise.
I would take Swedish nationality.
