South Asians actually did arrive to the New World early in the colonial period. Remember that colonization and conquest of the New World involved every group of the globe and all people. It all goes to show how interconnected the world is.

There was tons of South Asian and various groups that immigrated to the New World. Most groups from the Old Word arrived to the new world since 1492!
