I would clarify and say for the World Wars, it was the U.S. that " fought alongside " since they were late -comers to both of those wars.

You fought with the UK, not the US. I think Australia declared war on Finland as well in WWII with the UK and Canada, but the US didn't.

Why do Europeans know so little about the world outside Europe.?

You need to read up on WWII, particularly the campaigns in the SW Pacific and the political and alliance context provided by events like PM John Curtin's 1941 speech. With the UK in Vietnam? Australia's involvement in the two Gulf wars and Afghanistan had zero to do with the UK.

You'll note that there was zero Australian involvement with the Falklands conflict.

For WWII you need to look at the Pacific and European conflicts quite separately. The UKs involvement in the Pacific was comparatively minor.

I'm not saying there was no UK involvement in the campaigns in the Pacific, but it in terms of the major battles that shaped the outcomes of the Pacific war it was comparatively minor. The battles of of the Coral Sea, Bismarck Sea, Midway, Iowa Jima, Papua and New Guinea, the Solomon Islands, for example, were all fought with little or no UK contribution.
