Not really, for instance in the old days many societies were more protective about that sort of thing, it was usually the conquering/dominant society which took the females. Or if males went to a different place and conquered it they would reproduce with the females. In the 19th century Chinese single men going to the gold fields or doing labouring work would often marry local women. Nowadays, because of economics, you see western men going to Asia and stuff. In my experience, women seem more conservative in their choice of a mate, being less likely to date another race IME, at least white women. Men are less fussy with who they reproduce with.

Yeah, the general impression seems to be the men do the journeying and marrying the locals, kind of like how American servicemen married lots of foreign women overseas based on which wars they fought in, with spouses ranging from Brits to Koreans.

Also, before clothes and other products could be mass produced on an industrial scale, "trends" would probably be a lot slower for either gender. People probably kept their possessions longer when you couldn't buy them for cheap at Walmart and then toss them when you don't want them anymore.

I think modernity has allowed faster turnover of fads, but in terms of clothing men obviously haven't really taken to it as much. There aren't as many men eager to dump last year's style in favor of this year's trend.

In terms of food, language etc. and other aspects of culture, I'm not sure if it is the case in the west though, come to think about it. Are mothers more likely to care about passing certain aspects of their culture to their kids (eg. traditional recipes, mother tongue in language/dialect etc.) than fathers?
I'd say it's a modern western thing. It seems traditional societies often kept the same costumes/clothing for a long time, and it didn't change much, maybe gradually. For instance ancient Egyptian styles seemed the same for centuries.

I'd say globalisation, industrialisation.etc is the reason. This is just part of a massive evolution in technology, fashion, art (music, literature, visual arts, film) we've seen in the past couple of centuries. Prior to this fashion evolved very slowly.

Well in most human societies both mothers and fathers play a role in raising the children, but mother's probably pass on the more elemental things like language, a lot of stories.etc since they generally do the bulk of child- raising, especially in the earlier years, in most societies.

Yes, I think women are wired to be more conservative about their dating choices, whereas males are designed to 'spread their seed.' Also being pregnant and raising a child takes a lot bigger toll than merely impregnating someone.

This doesn't really work, since the men they married and reproduced with are also from a different culture or race...

Yeah, in the West, men's fashion has hinged on jeans and t-shirts for the last four or five decades. In that time, women have gone from dresses to skirts to pants to skirts to dresses to pants and back countless times. A guy could open a box of clothing packed away in the early 90's, pull out a t-shirt and pair of pants and look basically the same as a guy wearing stuff he'd just bought, while a woman doing the same would likely look bizarre in navel-high acid washed hip hugging jeans, a neon blouse with shoulder pads, etc.
