Other cities Like Hong Kong, Seoul, Mexico and Sao Paulo are top contenders.

China is such a huge market, so Hong Kong or Shanghai. I think the former takes the prize of being more international and even a older business hub. So Hong Kong gets my vote.

LA does have a Financial district.
Ok fine, I'll give you that. What I should have said is that it doesn't contain the same type or number of huge fortune 500 companies like say San Francisco's FD does.
I would say the 'Big Four' are pretty much set in stone:New York London Tokyo Paris
These are the cultural and economic hubs of the world. Now what is a bit trickier to ascertain is which city would qualify as number 5, considering all things, from GDP/economic size and importance, global connectedness, cultural influence, reputation.etc.
Of course, some things are subjective, but that makes comparisons more interesting doesn't it?
My personal choice would be Hong Kong (with Los Angeles, Shanghai, Chicago, Moscow contenders) due to it's fame, economic stature/stock exchange, massive iconic skyline, entertainment industry, transportation hub. It was also the most visited city in the world in 2013.

Yes although tellingly Paris and Tokyo are listed first. I don't think anyone would seriously think Dubai is on the same level as those two.
Good to see Chinese speaking cities are on the rise, with HK, SH, BJ and Singapore on the list.

The majority in Singapore speak Chinese, Fujian dialect or Manderin.
It is still a chinese majority city.
