Lots of people do it. I started to learn Spanish in earnest when I was almost 30, and I don't have much local exposure to it. I can function without any problems in a Spanish-speaking country today although I am missing bits and pieces sometimes. But within a few months of living there I would be almost seamless.

Yes. My great grand parents on my mother's side did. My mother left for Canada when she was 20.

Most of my ancestors who came here came here before it was the United States, but a few did come here after it became a country. The most recent came from Finland, and no ancestor that I can find ever moved out of the country. My great-grandpa did come with his brother who did end up returning to Finland, though. So, I do have distant relatives who I don't know who have an ancestor who went to the United States.

Gideon Murray married Pauline Hollister 26th April, 1919. Detroit/Wayn/ Michigan. Gideon died 1964.Does this mean anything to you?

My Dad's side of the family (some of them are in London aswell) migrated to New York city in the 80s I think.

Not my ancestor, but my uncle's wife's father studied in the US and stayed there for a few years. But he went back to China when the Chinese Communist Party took control.
