The police here are very professional, I trust them to do there job according to the rules. I may not always agree with the rules.

Not really. If Americans ever wanted to revolt against the gov't/police we would lose miserably. we put way too much of our tax $ into military when it should be spent on things like infrastructure renovations, paying our teachers and subsidizing small businesses and manufacturing based businesses here in the states. Long story short, I dont trust the U.S gov't and their unparred level of military controll through things like drones and spying on people legally thanks to the split decision Patriot Act that essenitially took away all our privacy rights over night...

What has American police done to all of you to lose your trust in them?

Here I wouldn't say police is the enemy.. But for small crimes they'll give you more trouble than you already had. They think it's the far-west and they are above the law because they are the "good" people against the "bad" people.
In my opinion, people joining the police are the same kind of people as the criminals, white one difference.. They have a high opinion of themselves so they think they are the good guy, the justice, so they are in their right.
Of course some of them are really nice people, even in service, but most of those are not the one dealing with common infractions or crimes.

The stories of abuse of power, scandals and controversies are endless.

I would wager that police trust in this country is at an all time low.

Major crimes are dealt with, on the whole, successfully, more minor ones seems to be when they have the time though still fairly quickly and competently. Civil issues not so much, it's almost as though they don't want to be involved... which to be honest they probably don't.

The majority of the Police i've dealt with have been pretty efficient and mostly pleasant but as usual, there are morons everywhere and the Police are no different.

My nation is so large, you cannot generalize about the police force. Throughout the country there is often a general feeling of distrust, and some city's forces are more dubious than others. Currently, my city, Albuquerque's force is probably one of the most notorious.
