In fact, both look very similar. What makes Rio look better in the pics is the Guanabara bay, but the city itself look like any huge metropolis of a developing country.
i agree completely. Rio looks awesome in pictures. And although its beaches are wonderful to see in reality, the cityscape terribly disappoints. Often shabby or full of ugly high rises.

In that department I really think no place in the world beats Los Angeles. TV shows and movie director nearly always portraying it as cool, exciting city full of attractive fashionable people. They do an outstanding job at cropping all the homeless population, the ugly murals, the run down buildings, the ghetto areas overseas people would mistake for a developing country

That reminds me of the film "(500) Days of Summer", which I didn't realise was filmed in LA because it looked so urban.

A city will be chosen as a location according to how the public perceives it. So bad cities will be made to look worse, and good cities will be made to look better, to exaggerate the desired effect.

Barcelona! It looks like one of the most beautiful cities in the world in pictures but I was so dissaponted. Park Guell is so smaaall and underwhelming after 30 mins. There’s nothing else to see in the sorrounding area. The city itself feels like an ordinary city with a few nice buildings scattered here and there. La Rambla is so tacky.

Yep, I agree Barcelona is highly overrated.

I have the impression that the entire Spain is full of these red brick buildings with green canopies in the windows everywhere. I never went to there, but all images from Spain coming from photos of friends and when Spain appears in the news are often with these buildings in the scenario.

You have got to be kidding.

Firstly, hardly any films are set in Brisbane. I can't recall any film in the past 5 years that was set in Melbourne, apart from West of Sunshine, which portrayed the city in a grungy, gritty way.

Sydney, on the other hand, may be featured in films but those films never do the city justice. They make it look cheap, nasty, dull, modern and suburban.

I actually think Sydney and Melbourne could do with a film that portrays them as beautiful as they are for a change. A kind of love-letter to the cities.

I don't think they look better in photos. I think it's the other way around. But then again, it depends on the photo. Lighting can do a lot for something.

Gotta admit when I was there I was so distracted by all the beautiful women but yes you are right. Rio has some really ugly concrete 1950s vibe to it. Very unattractive architecture. But did I mention the women? I've been all around the world and I vote them prettiest in the world and it's not even close. I was impressed.
