The point is that your 'normal' Irish foods were all very foreign at one point which makes you sound like a hypocrit.

Fads. This thread is about fads. Do you know what fads are? Why would anybody proudly gloat about how many fads there are in their social environment? And ridicule anyone who comes from a place where fads are not the central focus of social life.

There are no fads here - but certain foods became more established over time. At the moment, sushi is making an appearance, but a fad would imply that it will come and go - but that won't be the case. It's here to say.

Stupid cronuts and its knockoffs everywhere in New York.
Also, gourmet burgers and ramen.. but the latter is dying out.
Cupcakes and macarons are pretty much passe.

Gloating? Who said I was gloating? I was merely pointing out the reason why mac15 hadn't noticed a lot of things. He made ignorant blanket statements about 'Anglosphere' culture or whatever. It's a fact that these fads are not as evident in small towns. He doesn't seem aware of that, or is wilfully ignorant...

My apologies if you felt that "gloat" was directed at you. There is a strong tendency in these boards for "urban metro" apologists to put a lot of gloat between the lines in their posts about their favorite cities.

However, your post did seem to imply that multiculturalism is a positive ("gloatworthy"?) attribute, which contributes to food faddism.

I don't know. Never heard that before.

Apparently it's some kind of trend or craze that appears and disappears suddenly.

Trends are for the common rabble without imagination. Pfft. I hate trends and follow my own elitistic path.

I think pulled pork and cupcakes are some kind of a fab now. And there was something called avocado pasta, but that was yesterday. Oh, apparently cupcakes are soooooooooooo yesterday and don't even try cronuts.

I assume cronuts are just deep-fried croissant bits?
