I might say that some American dialects are closer to classic Castillian, Franco transformed the language in an administrative language, no relation with the Spanish spoken before the war.
Franco had no infuence on Spanish language and the Spanish spoken in Spain is, bar some new slang, the same language spoken before the war. What have you smoked?

Latin American dialects of Spanish, are variable. Carribean dialects sound fast, harsh, and stacatto to my ear. Mexican dialects tend to sound slow, whiny, and nasal, but easy to parse. Spanish Castillian is probably my preferred and I don't know enough about Argentinian, Chilean, Uruguayan, etc. to judge.
Thumbs up for saying "Spanish Castillian" and not "Castillian Spanish".

It sounds more or less like a machine gun. The speech is very fast and all the syllables appears to have the same duration.

Are you just being biased because you speak Portuguese ?
South American Spanish is not fast, it is very soft.

I generally like the sound of both. For me, French has a slightly nicer sound, on average. But certain dialects of Spanish sound better to me than certain dialects of French. So it depends on the dialect and the speaker. But... French overall.

of course Italian is better! (don't worry, just joking)

i personally prefer French, probably also because our dialect is a mix of French and Italian. i have also some relatives in France, so i'm more used to it. about Spanish, i don't know why and i know that is strange, but i can't take it seriously.
