I speak Spanish and think it's a fantastic second language to speak after English with it being the official language of a lot of countries that I'd like to visit or even live given the opportunity but I think French sounds better or at least that's my opinion. I like the way Spanish sounds but still...
Spanish -when properly spoken- can and sound beautiful to the ears, as much as any other language. French has a long standing tradition of being considered beautiful, excellent PR if you ask me. So much that no matter what we always assume anything French to be heavenly to say the least. Spanish, English, Russian and you name it don't work on self grandeur and embellishments... Oh well, I should digress...
Careful you might offend someone with that statement.
Anyway.
Around here the two words are just synonyms, although I've had people from Latin America correct me when I use "Castellano" to refer to my language 'cause I'm from Spain.
In fact I used to find it odd how they call the language "Spanish" (Mostly because among valencian speakers we call it "castellà " instead of "espanyol") but after spending years living mostly around Castilian speakers I got used to call it "Español"
