Overall this World Cup has been very entertaining to watch. I'm also glad more Americans are watching as well. It's nice to see more American national pride in sports in a country that has a very regionalized and local sports culture. I hope the US soccer team goes far in the World Cup tournament.

I have the opposite problem. I'm in Honolulu, exactly 12 hours behind you. The 06:00 game is a bit too early, and we're all at work for the other two matches. Luckily I have a flexible work environment that allows me to stream at least part of each match. Going to wake up early for USA v Germany on Thursday though, I'll have a beer with my German friends on facetime before the match though

Better question... how is it possible that China and India aren't able to organize a team good enough to qualify? World Cup is actually quite popular among Chinese.

As it's the world forums, here's clips of the World Cup 2014 bringing cities to a standstill. Remarkable how it grips multiple parts of all continents except North America.

Perhaps some amongst us were present in these scenes:

Algiers following Algeria's victory yesterday:

Angostura following Argentina's win over Bosnia:

Berlin as Germany defeated Portugal:

Bogota following Colombia's first win:

Geneva following Switzerland's win over Ecuador:

Mexico City after Mexico's draw with Brazil:

Santiago after Chile defeated Spain:

Seoul at 6am, during South Korea versus Russia:

Tokyo after a Japan game:

But actually playing soccer isn't. Ditto in India, which is crazy for cricket and where soccer has, consequently, failed to make inroads.

The Economist had a big article about this a couple of weeks ago.

Youre right, I am dying for the new season to kick off again!, Im afraid I have zero interest in the World Cup and my only hope is that no Chelsea players pick up any injuries!

Good article. It is often said that the US is the ONLY place in the world where it is not the most popular sport, but that's patently false. There are plenty of other places where another sport dominates, even if association football (soccer) is easily the world's most popular sport in spite of this.
