I think Purple Forbidden City/Citadel, Hue, Vietnam is overrated.

This is not really a castle. But nevertheless slightly castle like. My guess is that this is a british detention center of some sort.

You'll have to take an excursion to visit Mont St Michel. It's +300km away from Paris by road.

I really enjoyed this Moorish fortress in Sintra, Portugal. It's called Castelo Dos Mouros. It is on a hill over top a beautiful town, Sintra, located a bit inland, but the altitude lets you see over the Atlantic ocean, several clusters of towns, and another (newer) castle sitting on a hill directly adjacent.

According to the link the cult film House of Whipcord (1974) was filmed here. I've seen the film a few years ago but didn't know that it was actually shot on location at this infamous place. Interesting.
