Btw they are not from my country but The Lives of Others(Germany) and Central Station(Brazil) are absolute masterpieces. In case nobody mentions them lol.
For a tiny and relatively new country, Taiwan has a pretty fantastic body of work. There's City of Sadness, Three Times, Yi Yi, The Hole and The Wayward Cloud among others. I think the major criticism would be that Taiwan's good films are generally of the slower, arthouse variety and that would be especially true of films by Hou Hsiao-Hsien which are just about glacial in pace.

Here's a clip from the Wayward Cloud

Yeah I know Hou Hsiao-Hsien,I've heard good things about his works, but overall,Taiwan doesn't really have the soil for film industry to prosper. There are several gems here and there, though.

Btw many of the films are co-produced by Taiwan,Hong Kong, and China,or centered on Hong Kong or China,so I wouldn't really call them Taiwanese films.Like say Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon,I hesitated about mentioning it because the story was totally China-centered,the actors weren't Taiwanese either, and it was co-produced by Taiwan,China, the US,and Hong Kong, even though it did win the Oscar representing Taiwan.

Apart from that I haven't seen that many of the really famous Australian films. I really need to get on to that.
Picnic At Hanging Rock was aired on finnish television in the late 90's or early 00's. Great film.

Most of the brazilian movies that are not translated doesn't focus in "social inssues"

Brazil has a relatively big film industry and themes are diversificated, althoug dramas and comedys are predominant, as this industry is not powerfull enought to make movies like "Gravity" or Titanic".

For Austria: The Counterfeiters (Die Fälscher)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qwr9nCurEEQ

Some Jewish KZ inmates are forced to counterfeit USDs to trash the American economy. Pretty good. Won an Oscar back in 2007.

For Germany (well... it's a British-German co-production):

Probably the best film I have seen recently.

He is great, but crazy as hell. Antichrist is amongst my favourite movies

Antichrist stired up a lot of controversy especially amongst feminists. Not only because of the graphic scenes but also due to the fact that the character played by Charlotte Gainsbourg was portrayed as the guilty part.
