"Safety" is something really subjective, how do you think of this list in general?
Obviously some of the choices look ridiculously confusing(Ethiopia for instance),but somehow it looks a liiiiiittle bit more credible than those stuff that just randomly pick the West/Northern European countries+Canada,NZ,and Australia as the "safest countries".
Btw those that think HK isn't a country can ****,this is so not about if it is a country or not.
No surprise about Japan, South Korea or Singapore. Visited these countries many times for business and never felt anything close to being in danger. Hong Kong was also very safe. Not sure I agree with the rating of China though. Visited some cities and did not feel super safe.
UAE/Malta/Georgia/Bahrain/Estonia/Ethiopia/Qatar/Montenegro/Belarus/China/Kuwait
or
Canada/Netherlands/Belgium/Denmark/Sweden/Switzerland/Austria/Ireland/UK/Australia/New Zealand?
Simply my thoughts
Middle East countries may have safe public order externally on the street, but there's severe discrimination against LGBT and conceal social atmosphere toward women
There's no indication how "safety" is being defined, so I find the lists a bit dubious. Ethiopia is safer than Canada? Really?
The list must be based on either (a) crimes formally reported to the authorities or (b) rates of successful convictions in the local justice system. Some countries have abysmal policing, and crime victims seldom make formal complaints because they already know nothing is likely to be done. Or, even when a crime is reported, it may not be investigated or prosecuted in a serious way, so a conviction is unlikely. How likely is a rape complaint to result in a conviction in Qatar, UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait? "Safety" needs to be clearly defined, here...
Australia should be on the list. I would rank the rich Euro nations up there.
I think their may be some under reporting or lack of convicitons in some of these safe countries. Still, I'm i n Bahrain now and have never felt unsafe, but the US military deems it unsafe enough to have a curfew.
