Well, since Siberia is officially in Asia, but the Russians come from Europe, I was in doubt where to create this thread, in the Europe forum, or in the Asia forum... Then I created it in the World Forum.

Does anyone know if there are any good movies about the Russian "conquest of the East"?

I mean, the conquest of Siberia by Russians.

The Russians crossed the Urals and conquered all that vast land of Siberia.

It could be compared to the "conquest of the West" in the USA. Since there are many "Western" movies in the USA, about the conquest of the West, I imagine if there are some good movies about the Russian "conquest of the East"?

Anyone know movies like that?

I have seen some good documentaries I think about it. One of them is about the history of Russia.

"Dersu" provides just a snapshot of part of the colonial period in the Russian Far East around the Amur River and Vladivostok. What's interesting about it is it shows the life and worldview of one of the Native people of the region.

There are no films showing the conquest of the Native peoples, if that's what you're interested in. Russia doesn't allow the Native perspective on history to be portrayed in its media, and it's doubtful a foreign film company could get away with doing something like that, too, unless they shot the film outside of Russia.

Yermak Timofeyevich - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Check the film section of that wiki article. This guy Yermak is like the Christopher Columbus of Russia.

Thank you, very good indication!

This movie is from 1996:

Ermak (1996) - IMDb

Should be hard to find English subtitles for it...
