Parts of Manhattan are pretty dirty, particularly Lower Manhattan. Chinatown is horribly filthy. I also hate the gum all over the sidewalks.

Midtown West is also absolutely appalling. In a way understandably so because of the volume of pedestrian traffic, and the fact the population is not Japanese.

Chinatown though is absolutely inexcusable. Wow. Nowhere in Paris do you find anything quite like that.

I voted NYC since air pollution wasn't a factor, but if it was Beijing would be first and Shanghai second, then NYC. From my experience Beijing and Shanghai were fairly clean with the exception of the air pollution which would also dirty the buildings and clothes... also the occasional child pooping in the street...

If it was included in the poll, any major city in India would be first.

Singapore, Dubai, and Sydney are probably the cleanest, with Tokyo not far behind. London and Hong Kong in the middle. Don't know much about Paris.

NYC is definitely not according to the criteria listed.

My guess would be an Asian city not listed such as Mumbai or Islamabad.

Paris also has more than its fair share of human filth. Hordes of pickpockets especially aroumd metro stops acting in packs and singling out tourists.

Does London really deserve 4 votes here? Last time I walked through it most of it was very clean. Zone 1 was exceptionally clean.

Also found London to be quite clean, and as a New Yorker I was impressed by it!

Let's not forget that barely less than a decade ago London was voted the dirtiest city in Europe.

Not everyone posting here will have had a chance to see the newly streetscaped inner London, with the widened pavements, pedestrianised zones and spruced up infrastructure.
