The Western US accent is most similar to the Canadian accent, the main difference is the Canadian raising. I can tell Canadians by their accent, but for many only a few words are distinctive enough for them to stand out. The difference between a strong southern US accent and many northern US accents are greater than the difference between a Canadian and many northern or western American accents. Or even western upstate NY and a NYC accent.

Wiki - Bigotry is a state of mind where a person strongly and unfairly dislikes other people, ideas, etc.[1] Some examples include personal beliefs, race, religion, national origin, gender, disability, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, or other group characteristics.

If you ascribe negative characteristics to a person simply because of their accent, this is an excellent description.

Americans have this weird messianic belief that they always should and will be the 'indispensable people' that I find a little bit creepy. I'm happy to be an irrelevant canadian.

How can you know you're over ''it'' when you don't know what ''it'' is?

This is really a product of neocon political philosophy in regards to foreign affairs which holds (in a nutshell) that the United States is mandated by its position in the world to combat 'evil'.

Yeah, I agree it is creepy. But not all Americans subscribe to the neocon philosophy. I do believe that the Republicans's propensity for putting up neocons for presidential races and the fact that Hillary Clinton herself is the closest thing Democrats have to a neocon bodes ill.
