Happiness is important to people everywhere. People have to feel happiness enough times in everyday life. Happiness is something to quantify, & measure, objective, and subjective.

There is a Global Happiness Index apparently starting up in Bhutan, and attempting to include up to 72 variables, Psychologically Feeling Well, Ecology, Education, Culture, Living Standards, Time Use, Community Vitality, Health, Governance, and Quality of Life. Bhutan and the Concept of Gross National Happiness | The Basement Geographer

There is a Global Map showing relevant Satisfaction With Life Index, Feeling Well, and Level of Optimistic Thinking in Society. Main Discovery in Global Map seems quite accurate about a majority of countries. http://basementgeographer.com/wp-con..._happiness.png

The only thing dumber than a quality of life index is a "happiness" index.

With all of the money, alcohol, sex, cheap domestic labor, I can believe it. Even in a country that on the surface appears very restrictive, like Saudi, a lot of stuff goes on behind closed doors, plus they flood Bahrain and UAE on the weekends to do their vice more openly.

I dont believe that. People from Latin America seem soooooooo much happier than people from Scandinavia. It looks like the jolly people from Finland off themselves at an alarming rate, while the supposedly less happy Italians enjoy living. Lets look at suicide statistics:
