What are your favorite urban areas in the world with a population higher than 200,000 and lower than 500,000 people?

By urban area I mean just one city that has no other cities or towns nearby, or a set of cities or towns that are neighbors, and together have a population between 200,000 and 500,000.

What are the best urban areas in that range, in the world, in your opinion?

The two that came to mind instantly were Montpellier, France and Ghent, Belgium. Brugge (BE) and Maastricht (NL) are also quite nice but they are well under 200,000.

In my own country: Halifax, Nova Scotia and Victoria, British Columbia would be my choices.

Ones that I've been to that are nice: Christchurch, NZ and Rijeka, Croatia.

Others: Geelong, Victoria and Wellington, NZ which are nothing special imo.

Haven't been to many places within this population boundary hahaha

People don't pay much attention to cities in the populaiton range between 200,000 and 500,000

But those cities can be quite nice.

Most have full urban amenities, but without many of the problems of bigger cities.

I'd also list Sucre, Bolivia, Porto-Novo , Benin, St. John's , Newfoundland. I would name Hama, Syria, but it almost certainly no longer exists in any form that I would recognize. I once would have also put Leon, Nicaragua, on the list, but I understand that it has now been "discovered" and would now have classy hotels, restaurants, etc, and therefore invaded and altered by people almost as destructive as those in Hama.

A few others came in too small, including Mopti, Mali, Livingstone, Zambia, and Ioannina, Greede.
