Which do you prefer, dry landscapes such as deserts or grasslands, where there are little trees and grass turns yellow in summer, or wet ones - forests of any kind, which are usually lush and green all year round (in warm climates) or only in summer (in cold climates)?

I like forests infinitely better than dry landscapes. My favorite kind of landscape is temperate mixed forest with both decidious (birches, oaks, maples) and coniferous (pines, spruces) trees. Dry landscapes depress me.

Forest. Deserts and grasslands are beautiful in their own right, but no....it's forest all the way with me.

Forests. I do enjoy vacationing and visiting very dry climates, it's just that forests seem much more alive.

For camping, again forests. The scent, the rivers, lakes or ocean mixed in with a landscape covered in fir trees is nirvana for me.

Northern temperate deciduous/coniferous for me. Northeast U.S or Northwest Europe forest types.

I should probably add the deciduous forest of the eastern US and Canada although I've not spent any time in them. They seem like a place I'd like.

Okay, I'll be the first to say I prefer dry over the long term. Having trees all around me is nice for a little while and then I start to feel claustrophobic. I want to see the mountains, if any, I want to to be able to see the horizon and the big sky. When we used to backpack in the Sierra Nevada, I always preferred to be above the treeline.

And, I don't like the ground to always be wet. My brother lives in Lynnwood, WA, north of Seattle, and I swear I have never seen the ground dry at his place. It's always muddy and that makes me crazy.

Deserts and grasslands have a more severe beauty maybe but it's what I am used to and what I like. I LOVE the sage scrub in southern California. I also like central Washington where there are some big rivers, but the view is wide open.

thanks, I'm sure I would. In fact, I'd like to live in New England just for a couple of years to experience real season changes.
