So, what city in the world do you think has the most science fiction like look?

Considering many people are going to say this: Dubai is one.

Pudong in Shanghai looks like a futuristic neighborhood planned by Hollywood scriptwriters from the 70s and 80s. Mostly because of the Oriental Pearl Tower. Think: The Jetsons.

The rest of the city? Not so much. Hong Kong and Tokyo also don't quite fit the bill.

Why are you confused? Dubai and Shanghai have similar names just wondered what the suffix means.

Etymology on Dubai doesn't seem to be as clear. Anyhow, I doubt those words/names are related somehow.

Another theory states that the name came from a word meaning "money", as people from Dubai were commonly believed to be rich due to the thriving trading center of the location. An Arabic proverb says "Daba Dubai" (Arabic: دبا دبي‎), meaning "They came with a lot of money." According to Fedel Handhal, a scholar on the UAE's history and culture, the word Dubai may have come from the word Daba (Arabic: دبا‎) (a past tense derivative of Yadub (Arabic: يدب‎), which means "to creep"), referring to the slow flow of Dubai Creek inland. The poet and scholar Ahmad Mohammad Obaid traces it to the same word, but to its alternative meaning of "baby locust" (Arabic: جراد‎) due to the abundant nature of locusts in the area before settlement.
There is some more info on that when following the citations.

Not all of Dubai looks futuristic. It has really poor areas. I've been there, so I know.
