Ironically, Americans sometimes have a more idealized, hypnotic spell of interest observation towards areas of Eastern Europe. Americans might feel more of a foreign, exotic, mystical appeal to Eastern Europe compared to what Western Europeans feel. There is occasionally too much exaggeration, false stereotypes, and obsession of geopolitical association with how some Western Europeans might think of Eastern Europe.

This obsession of geopolitical association causes unwarranted division, yet paradoxically increased variation of Europe identity, and interesting appeal in crossing the socially constructed borders between Western Europe, and Eastern Europe.


Although, official acknowledgement of identification of Eastern Europe varies in exact definition. Many people say Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Ukraine, Moldova, Belarus, Russia, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Macedonia, Kosovo, Albania, Serbia, Montenegro, Bosnia Herzegovina, Croatia, and Slovenia are all technically in Eastern Europe.

While other people say Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia, Albania, Macedonia, and Czech Republic are separated, and not included in Eastern Europe.

Everyone of those countries are unique, and don’t have to get grouped together all the time. Countries like Czech Republic, Romania, Hungary, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Montenegro, Croatia, and Slovenia are observed more favorably than the other countries in Eastern Europe label. Russia is an extreme mix of ambivalent love, and hate. Serbia, Kosovo, Bosnia, Ukraine, Moldova, and Belarus tend to get viewed less favorably compared to other Eastern European nations.

Countries like Romania and Montenegro are viewed more favorably than, say... Slovakia? (Romania is not even in the Schengen Area...)
