Ethiopia. Maybe not First world, but one of the fastest gainers.

Sri Lanka, maybe, too.

And Angola.

Brazil will be a good candidate when the Workers' Party will left the power. It must strongly reform the tax systems, stop the protectionism and look more to the manufacturing industry rather than to commodities, in order to become a power. But it's exactly the opposite of what Dilma Rousseff is doing. Because of her, Brazil is going backwards.

I get why he was confused. Kenya and Ethiopia were at the bottom, they are currently growing fast, but it's very difficult to climb up to developed(or close to that) within 35 years.
Except that we did.

I still wouldn't add them to the list though.

Much of East Asia has developed dramatically in the last 40 years so its possible that Africa will too. Its the fastest growing continent in the world and I personally feel in the 2050s Africa will get its first developed Countries then another, and another and another etc..

Probably. But there are many more promising candidates. Uruguay, Chile, and much of Central/Southeastern/Northeastern Europe are almost there, they are borderline developed as in 2015.

What exactly do you mean by developed because this really is a broad term. Do you mainly mean the economics or do HDI etc. also play a roll?

No obsolete poverty I guess, but many countries that are not ''developed'' are not classified as such.

What is the official definition?
