Piedmont, Lombardy, the papal states, and the Naples kingdom and Sicilia should create "Italy" also, they have similar languages and sometimes succeed in making things work together (but only sometimes)
To me that sentence reminds more the names of the States that there were in Italy before the unification (in particular the "papal state" and the "Naples kingdom"). So the idea was more that, also 150 years after the unification, sometimes we still have some difficulties at collaborating one with each others.
Norway and Greece are as likely a match based on linguistic derivation than Finland and Hungary. Just because they are in the same linguistic branch does not mean that they are very close.
Actually,, Paraguay might be composed almost 100% of Argentine descendants. Paraguay's wars against alli ts neighbors ended so disastrously, that there was virtually not a single surviving Paraguayan male of potentially fathering age, and all Paraguayans since are thought to be the result of one-night unions of Paraguayan women and Argentine crewmen on trading vessels coming up from Argentina after the war.
The fact is, though, that there are no nations that are the result of unions in the past 50 years, and it is extremely unlikely there will be any in the next 50. The trend is strongly in dhe oppositite direction of separatism, and if any unions do occur, it will simply be the re-union of of former nations that have recently been severed.
Tanganyika and Zanzibar -> Tanzania
India and Sikkim -> India
Malaya + North Borneo + Sarawak -> Malaysia
I am surprised nobody talked about the proposed East African Federation that will consist of Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, and Burundi and is actually under some progress. Uganda is the strongest proponent for the formation of the Federation while Tanzania wants to slow things down....
Imagine a Unified Europe
all the way from Iceland to Far eastern Russia
that would be an unstoppable world power
