I suppose it's easier for many people to remember in countries where the local language has the media referring to the EU as "L'Europe des 28", as in French and a few others I am sure.

I think of g'day as being more common in NZ.

When I was a kid in the 80s, (English speaking) Canadians were stereotyped as saying "g'day" and "g'day eh!" as a result of this popular sketch from SCTV, broadcast in Canada and the U.S.

That said, I don't believe "g'day" is really said to any significant degree in Canada anywhere outside of the Upper Ottawa Valley in Ontario (to the NW of the city of Ottawa).

But I thought it was customary to say G'Day in Aus, like every Brit shakes you hand a say "How do you do"...
Anyway, that's what Slim Dusty sang so it must be right?:

Still most people I know don't know how many member states there are. Guess we should leave the EU too.

I think this is a huge generalization. The fact is, the U.S. is such a huge country and is only bordered by two other countries. Take western Europe for example. A bunch of western European countries could easily fit inside the territory of the U.S. Even the state of CA alone covers more land area and has a larger population than many countries in the world.

Add to this that many Americans don't have the amount of vacation time that people in many other countries do and that it's often very expensive to travel internationally. Personally, I've been to India, China, Thailand, Mexico and a bunch of Caribbean islands as well. My brother has also traveled internationally even more than I have.

I can guarantee you that many people from other countries often also have ignorant ideas about the U.S. A lot of people get their information from Hollywood. When I was in India, I was almost taken aback by some of the crazy questions that I'd get asked about what life in the U.S. is like. Some of their views about it were borderline ridiculous.
