Because it then creates cultural expectations that if you don't work overtime, you're not as dedicated with your job

My neighborhood is "open" with wide streets. People are constantly walking their dogs, walking with their families, riding bikes or scooters, jogging pushing a baby stroller, etc. down those wide streets and past my house, which has a park and a creek across the street. In that park, on the corner, is our little library hut, where people exchange books on the honor system. I love being able to sit on my wide front porch, look past my oak trees and crepe myrtle trees and azaleas and see the activity on the street and in the park area. When we have neighborhood socials and picnics, they're always held in that park too. We have several a year - people bring their grills and coolers and chairs and we set up tables - it's so much fun!

Most people have at least one dog. Many, like us, have two dogs. Our dogs are big, and they love being able to run back and forth and chase frisbees, that sort of thing, in the back yard.

This all sounds sort of luxurious but I can assure you I don't live in a fancy neighborhood. In fact, here is a street view of a local neighborhood similar to mine. Nice but definitely middle class for northeast Texas.

I referenced a specific aesthetic preference Invincible mentioned (or thought he did) in previous posts. Not responding to the rest, because it didn't have anything to do with what I was saying. It really didn't follow.

is what i am talking about, narrow 2 way roads.

You either have to pull over or just keep going while driving inches from parked cars and hope the oncoming cars stays far to his right.
That's narrow? We have a lot of alleys here that are a bit narrower than that and I've squeezed through

There is everything wrong with that. If there wasn't, then our great grandparents wouldn't have bothered to fight getting a 40 hour work week instituted. We're not born to slave away at our jobs

Of course. There are plenty of companies and jobs in the US where no overtime is expected. In fact, when I worked in banking, they didn't WANT us working more than about 38 hours a week so we didn't accidentally "get" overtime.

Yeah and that is a normal road not an alley, yeah you can squeeze through but you usually have to really watch yourself and go slowly... you can't just freely drive down the road at 35 mph.

Oh, there are tons of cats in our neighborhood too - we have one.

Funny story - the other day my cat was in the very back of my house. Suddenly I heard him literally caterwauling and he came barreling into the dining room and threw himself into the window!

I was shocked of course, and I looked through the window onto the front porch and there was this gigantic Siamese cat, who looked like MY gigantic Siamese cat, and they were having a stare down through the dining room window!

My cat is old, so I didn't let him outside because if I had, there would have been tufts of cat hair all over my front porch in about 30 seconds. And I didn't feel like a trip to the vet's office.
