I agree with you, I don't find the Rockies to be that inspiring compared to other ranges. However, I don't really see how that is relevant at all, Yosemite isn't in the Rockies, it is in the Sierra Nevada. The Sierra Nevada are a younger, more rugged range. In addition to this, I mentioned two very specific places. Even if the Sierra Nevada were less rugged than the Alps overall (which I don't believe), that doesn't mean Yosemite is less rugged than Lauterbrunnen.

I'll take neither and opt for the Cascades instead.

I am a big fan of the Cascades as well, but I don't see how that is relevant to what I asked.

I've been to both several times.

The best of Yosemite is the equal of Lauterbrunnen, but there's just more of everything in Switzerland.

Yosemite has great sights interspersed with a lot of quite bland stuff in between. Lauterbrunnen always seems like one giant postcard, so I'd choose it over Yosemite, but they're both great.

I'd pick Lauterbrunnen, because amongst the outstanding nature there are villages and amazing ones with a history which dates back to the Middle Ages, making it about as complete as it could be even though i think there are better valleys around Europe (Val Pusteria, Val D'Isere, Val D'Aosta)

On the plus side, half of Lauterbrunnen doesn't allow cars so you don't hear the rumble of traffic as you can in Yosemite Valley on busier days. Except the eastern couple of miles, which also ban cars.
