I was talking about size, not population.

Here are the three cities on Google Earth:

As i said, they are very comparable in size. Sao Paulo and MC are definitely more dense than BA.

Mexico City.

Tokyo...seems even bigger.

I think New York City is like the 10th or 12 largest metro in the world now.

São Paulo, on the other hand, is more '20th Century', full of towers of concrete, steel and glass; I don't know if it can be easily compared with any other city in the world. One common complaint of both visitors and citizens in São Paulo is the widespread presence of tangled overhead electrical wires, not present in Buenos Aires, which makes the city feel much uglier than it should be.
Great input, muito obrigada

That is a very Brazilian mentality. Lol

You guys are obsessed with cities having lots of high rise buildings. I wonder where that comes from?

Have you ever been to Mexico City?

In fact no. I only know Mexico City from Street View and pictures. However I would like to visit it in some point of the time.

If adding Tokyo and Sao Paulo, I would say

Tokyo > Sao Paulo >Mexico City > NYC > Buenos Aires

I was reading that Shanghai is similar to LA in that it is more sprawl than high rise (as opposed to Tokyo, NYC, Sao Paulo). Is this true?
