Overall America is a great country. We have tons of land, high quality of human rights, lot's of personal freedom and many other great things that are not available in many other countries. It is going in a bad direction lately, but things are still pretty good.

For me, the main problem is that America is hard to make a living in thee days. The dollar is at such a low level, the economy is bad, sallaries for lots of jobs are getting really low, health care and housing is insanely expensive.......that's why I'm leaving. If I could make lot's of money at a decent job in America I would be happy. But right now, for me, it makes more sense to work overseas for a while and make money. Then convert that money back to the deflated dollar and get lots of $$$.

Also, although right now, in 2008 things are still pretty good in America. I just don't think it's going to go back in a good direction. I think that the richest countries on Earth will get poorer (including the U.S.), and the poorer countries will get richer as globalization continues. This great, extravagent, and wasteful lifestyle that we Americans are used to will not last much longer. Places like China, Korea, India and lots of Middle Eastern countries are starting to take pieces of our pie and we are all going to have to share, and America's piece of the pie is getting smaller. Anyone who keeps up on world events should be able to see this occuring.

There are far too many Americans who never leave the U.S. and lots of these people truely are ignorant about the rest of the world and they think America is the only place on Earth worth living. There is life outside of America. There are lot's of countries out there that will happily accept an educated and decent American person who will be productive in their society. So why not view the entire world as your opportunity, instead of just America?

If you want to live in a place with 3,000 people per square mile and pay double for products then choose Europe.

Europe cleaned out their jails and the prisoners built a paradise.
Who ever thinks that Europe is better then America has that right, but thanks for pointing out their faults.
-Diesel free air--Good luck with this if you live in a city or next to a highway. Trains, semis and school busses (just to name a few) all run off diesel. You breathe it in everyday in America.
-Europeans CAN choose their doctors. They are not forced to see Dr. A or Dr. B. Get over it.
-Some European countries have free college, some don't; but a majority make higher education affordable because they would rather have an educated population, unlike America.
-Last I checked, and I did check, Europeans can drive what ever car they want as long as they could afford it. Hmmm, just like America.
-You are correct on this one.

In there lays the abhorrence towards socialism.

Now, socialism may greatly improve the quality of life for most Americans that are not rich, but here's the general proletariat view on it:
1-I bust my behind 40+ hours a week, I barely have time for my wife, I live pay check to pay check, and I have to pay for my own insurance. I'll be damned if some lazy ******* is going to get a free ride from the government.
2-It will raise taxes, maybe even considerably. This is probably the main reason why Americans oppose it. It might be possible to accomplish with out raising taxes if military spending were to be cut, but too many Americans have the notion that a couple of dirt balls in the middle of a foreign desert have the capability to completely destroy America even though we have spent billions on the war on terror and yet we can't even find the master-mind who is hiding in a cave (and on a dialysis machine) even though we have the technology to pinpoint a conversation any where in the world and have satellites that can see through a key-hole---what the f*ck ever
3-It will give illegal immigrants access to it, which goes back to number one.
4-The AMA has tried to socialize healthcare since the 40's, but is continusly shot down by the HMO lobby.

There's more, but I'll leave it at that for now.

Just keep in mind that America is a complex place too.
A lot of is about the almighty $$$. And for a while now, I think Bin laden is a front so bush can go after the oil and set the crooked deeds in place. As for health care in America. It will alway be about profiteering.

May be off topic but do you know where the majority of new drugs, new med tech, cutting edge procedures come from???? The US Medical\pharmecutical industry. Another case of the World sucking up the good things that come out of the US and then crapping on us

Mostly Boston and Germany.

Another way to look at it is: Another US manufacturer profiting from it's own citizens. They could lower the price, you know.

By keeping healthcare private advances can be made. What advances do tax dollars ever give us?

You're right, guys, healthcare is off topic in this thread.

How about taking up that particular argument over in Politics and Other Topics?

We were paying about $12k a year in taxes prior to the lay off, when we had all these kids. I was too humiliated to say anything, though. At least our kids could get their shots and their meals while we worked on retooling and reworking our lives around our new circumstances.
And you are exactly why I still support the idea of welfare (and other such programs)... I'm sorry people were such jerks to you, but karma will get back at them eventually.
