Neither you nor I nor anyone else has the right to order people to learn another language if they are living in their home country.

The official languages of Canada are English AND French.

All French Canadians who need to know* English learn it just fine.

*Note that "need to know" doesn't necessarily include every single joe-schmo you might run into the streets here, in order to avoid you guys the ignonimy of having to deal with someone who only speaks another language!

Still, if I were a real Canadian I'd tell those French people that either you adapt to our culture or you go home to France.

Why let your beautiful city of Montreal over into the hands of outsiders?

Montreal and all of Quebec is pretty much ruined now for everyone that doesn't speak French.

Why would they "go home to France" when they arrived in Canada FIRST?

Montreal and Quebec city were founded by French settlers.

Why don't you stop talking about things you clearly don't know

Native Americans came to the US first. That doesn't mean that its their country now. It's the strong and the powerful who rules.

That's kind of an 1800s attitude, isn't it? One which has usually led to secessionist movements, and even bloodshed.

It's not an attitude, it's a fact of life. Nobody "owns" anything. Anyone can at any time choose to overtake something else. This is how the current countries have been formed. And there are no rules saying that those borders will be the same for the future. If history has told us anything, we can be pretty sure they won't.

W.T.F.

It's their culture. They came here generations ago. It's like trying to tell everyone in Boston to go back to Ireland or Italy due to the strong connections...

True to a point, but the era of great demographic conquests appears to be mostly over. I like to think we are living in somewhat more respectful and enlightened times.
