I like Sundays off for everybody.

In Berlin most businesses are closed on Sundays and they do just fine. When I was there I just got used to making sure I had enough groceries on Saturday to survive another day. Big deal.

I think it should be facoltative, here we have been slowly moving towards that model for years now, local businesses are free whether to stay open or close, most of them actually prefer the latter option as the former isn't lucrative enough to be worthy for them, the exceptions are larger supermarkets, bars, restaurants and betting centers.

I think its nice to have Sunday hours, here in my part of the UK its now 24hr opening for some shops and although its been 'handy' from time to time to go and buy milk at 2 in the morning it feels a bit excessive, even on a Sunday you can shop from 10 till 10 it means that in a whole week you cant shop for a total of about 18 hours (most of which you will be sleeping) surely we can survive that?

No. I find sunday's boring.

If you don't want to shop you don't have to!

Closing on Sundays (full day or half day/early) is part of the Christian/Western culture and society, as is Saturday & Sunday weekend. Although originally the purpose of 'Sunday closing law' was for a day of worship; nowadays it's mainly about a day of rest and enjoying the last day of the week.

It should stay this way. If you don't like it move to China or India. There are many things you can do on a Sunday besides shopping. Many employees also deserves having a guaranteed day off from work, let's not be selfish.

BTW there's no such a thing as "Christian Sabbath". Christians are allowed to work/shop on Sundays.

Vast majority of malls and most shops open later and close earlier on Sundays too in America, and in some parts they have 'Blue Laws' closed all day on Sundays including the county outside of New York City I used to live in.

First of all you should be "happy" that stores are even open for some hours on Sundays in the UK because prior to 1994 they were closed all day just like many other European countries are today.

Second, it's not about wanting to shop, it's about retail workers' not wanting to work. They need to rest as well, and want time to be with their families and friends when they have off.

I agree, and its not even some hours really its 12 hours, surely enough time for anybody to get any 'emergency' purchases if they need them, 24hour shops have to have some 'down time' to re-arrange or repair / service equipment.
