Connect each State with a 1st World Country.
Going by Personality, Hobbies, Culture, Religion and Politics.

California-Australia and Minnesota-Sweden are some examples.

Hm. I'd rather do Province/State for Canada, if that's okay.

I think Australia should also be broken to State/State, since it's so large, and that "beach culture" isn't shared by everyone.

Actually.....the Province of Ontario could really be connected to every Great Lake State, because the influence and similarities are shared by all of them in both directions, due to long historical ties. Do you know what I mean? 75% of Canada's population is within 100 miles of the US border. Nearly everyone has family on either side, and provinces are so big compared to states, people vary greatly within a province alone.

This might only really work if we leave Canada out of it. lol

(sorry, Davy! )

Okay....I'll give you one. Alberta/Texas. We call it "Texberta" here. lol

If I had to guess? I'd say New South Wales.

I would say parts of British Colombia are probably most similar to Northern California.

Australia is a mix between California and Texas

Like Texas it has big open places, a lot of arid, flat plain, open fields, grazing cattle, cowboys/stockmen, pickup trucks/utes, country music, rednecks, rodeos, steakhouses, largely depends on resources (minerals and oil), similar population (about 24 million each), economic size, similar city sizes.etc.

It has the same 'beachy' culture as California, California imported a lot of gum trees, southern Australia has a similar Mediterranean climate. Similar stereotypes and fashion. Melbourne a bit like SF and other cities like SoCal.

Tasmania - a cross between the Pacific North West and New England.

Northern Territory and northern Western Australia - Alaska, for the frontier mindset and lifestyle, not the climate.

Minnesota - Sweden/Scandinavia

(I know most Swedes emigrated to Minnesota. Their accents even have some resemblance to Swedish.
Not to mention the weather. I don't know about the politics. Are they generally democrats or republicans? My
gut says Minnesotans are democrats. If so, even more resemblance.)

I got a thread deleted in the General U.S. forum thanks to JMT...

Reason: Comparing North American to non-North American areas is not allowed
