Both are incredible.

I find Italy to be prettier, but Cali has more variance.

Italy for sure. California is nice, but Italy it spectacular with the Amalfi Coast, Dolomites, Lakes Region, Sicily, etc.

I would day California has slightly more natural beauty because the range of what they have. Deserts, Mountains, Cliffs, Coastal Scenery, Big Beaches, etc. I have been all over Italy and through a decent amount of California. Im more familiar with Italy, oddly enough. I guess that happens when you grow up equal distant between the two.

Italy has much better looking cities and development, obviously.

It has desert, which Italy lacks. The thing for me though is Italy seems to do everything better. Alps > Sierras, Amalfi Coast > Big Sur, Lake Garda (or Como, etc) > Lake Tahoe. It’s really amazing how much is packed into Italy.

They are different scenery, I voted Italy, only because it has natural scenery not found in California or elsewhere in the USA, such as the seaside villages along the Amalfi Coast. The equivalent of California scenery is also available in Oregon and Washington, perhaps with the exception of Yosemite.

Id probably vote italy, but italy is a lot flatter, so driving around it and finding cool spots is easier for tourists. Not the fairest of comparisons.

Italy has maybe 2 dozen 12k mountain peaks, while California has hundreds.

Winter driving here is off limits on this drive in California.
Im sure id look a lot prettier with snow
