None of our issues have ever affected me directly either, but they are still there, and they make me feel really embarrassed and ashamed of my own country almost 24/7.

I guess I just take our issues too personally. Shrug.

The chance of being shot by a crazy person is minimum in Nigeria and nearly and most third world countries also. That doesn't mean murder isn't a problem.

The U.S. is like 2 different societies. The places that have gun violence and crime are a dark underworld of drugs and poverty where mainstream Americans don't go.

At the same time, people do tend to be concerned that the wrong elements are creeping into their own neighborhood over time, which sometimes does happen.

Okay, everyone takes a different approach. I don't associate national issues with experiencing shame, if it works for you that's cool.

Violent crime is almost non-existent in middle class America. There's a chance of being a random victim in the same way you might get hit by a car or struck by lightning. The vast majority of America is as safe as any European country.

But still, it is perplexing and embarrassing that a country this wealthy has a problem with crime in its inner cities and low income areas. 90% of crime and violence in America is poor people against poor people. There is too much greed and inequality in American society and it will need to become more socialist and equitable over time to deal with these problems.

I could only think of the famous colleges in the US are better than all colleges in Asia. The US is not good in most other things. Most people from developed countries and territories of Asia, and also including Qatar, the UAE and Oman, except non-peaceful Israel, do not want to live in the US.

Your idea will affect the income of some people and businesses in Taiwan. The Taiwanese government will also lose income generated by incoming tourists. Japan and South Korea on the other hand are warmly welcoming Chinese tourists to boast their economy and earn more money. Many Chinese tourists are big spending shoppers in China's neighboring countries too.

Yeah pretty much. I wish we would apply stricter limits on the number of Chinese tourists and charge them a whole lot more so that they'd stop coming.

That's obviously a matter of different opinions.

Not really. Independent tourists from China are more than welcome, they tend to be more civilised and shop moderately, like everyone else does, but the tourist groups are not. They all stay in China-based hotels, travel by China-based large coaches, buy crap in China-based duty-free shops, and dine in China-based restaurants. These hotels/car companies/restaurants all pose as Hong Konger or Macanese ones to dodge the regulations.

Taiwanese tourism industry barely makes any profit from these Chinese groups of horror, and unfortunately these tourist groups are the majority.

Besides, tourism is a very minor sector of our economy. Taiwan ain't no France.
