This is an amusing poll to see of people in the USA learn the same habits of getting dressed as other people in the world. You all learned to dress yourself by the age of six. So answer according to what country you were living in when you were six years old.

Which arm do you put into a sleeve first, when putting on a shirt or a coat.

I do right first, naturally, but had to learn to do left first when I got chronic ligament damage from a sports injury. So I still do left first, but learned to do right first.

Wouldn't this be more related to being left-handed or right-handed than anything to do with the country you are from?

Maybe, but 99% of all children are either righthanded, or have a righthanded parent teaching them to dress, so I'd expect that to be an insignificant variable. Lefthandedness occurs in only about 10% of the population, not enough to skew the results of this poll beyond the (huge) margin of error. The purpose of the poll it to try to see if any cultural variation has evolved. Just as a few languages are written from right to left, despite right-hand dominance. Wouldn't it be funny if we found that Arabic speakers dress left hand first? Which hand you eat with has huge cultural import among Arabic speakers.

Why would a right handed person put his right hand in first, anyway? How does handedness affect the dexterity of that operation? I bet you always tie your right shoe first -- but why?

Women dressing (in western clothing) hold the button in their left hand, men in their right. Do they also put the left hand in the sleeve first?

I suppose.

One thing that might be an interesting question is how you start counting with your fingers: with your thumb or with your index finger?

You know like that famous scene in Inglourious Basterds when the Americans are trying to pass off as Germans in the bar?

This can also be used to detect a person impersonating the opposite sex. Just say "Your fingernails are ditry". A man will look at his nails palm-up with his fingers curled toward him, a woman palm-down, fingers pointing away.
