I consider Arabs to be ethnic Arabians in the peninsula and the Levant.

Arabic people are people who speak Arabic wherever they may live.

I do understand that the term 'Arab' is often used in place of Arabic, but I think it is weird to think of people living in the far northwest of Africa as Arabs just like it is strange to think of English speaking Africans as Englishmen.

Why do you accept people of the Levant as arabs ?
Why are they more arabs than the north africans ?

It's akin to calling the Maya Spaniards.

Be careful Davy, because it's all not as easy as it seems.
Because for example if we are talking about Somalia, then Arabs indeed were present there, and the local population has their admixture.
You see it their looks ( of some Somalis) and their customs.

"Islam was introduced to the area early on from the Arabian peninsula, shortly after the hijra. Zeila's two-mihrab Masjid al-Qiblatayn dates to the 7th century, and is the oldest mosque in the city.[54] In the late 9th century, Al-Yaqubi wrote that Muslims were living along the northern Somali seaboard.[55] He also mentioned that the Adal kingdom had its capital in the city,[55][56] suggesting that the Adal Sultanate with Zeila as its headquarters dates back to at least the 9th or 10th centuries. According to I.M. Lewis, the polity was governed by local dynasties consisting of Somalized Arabs or Arabized Somalis, who also ruled over the similarly established Sultanate of Mogadishu in the Benadir region to the south."

Default Data

The last picture is in Senegal, celebrating a Project Orchid milestone, a declaration to end FGC - Female Genital Cutting? My almanac says 94% of the population (est. 12.8 million in July 2008 CE) were Islam - which I assume is still the majority. I don't recognize the ethnic group names that comprised 89% of the country, I assume that they are native African groupings. There was a very small segment - 1% - of Europeans & Lebanese.

The Arab Christians of the Levant are said to be descendants of the Ghassanids who entered the Levant from the Arabian peninsula in the 3rd century. The Ghassanids themselves descended from the Azd tribes of southern Arabia around Yemen.

But they were probably a minority at that time in the Levant.
Now the majority says they are arabs. A minority of arabs from the arabic peninsula came in north africa too, but we are seen as less arabs than those of the Levant for some people.

And what about the irakies ? Where they in majority arab tribes there too ?
